Today I launched my blog. Something I’ve wanted to do for a little over 10 years. Why didn’t I launch before? Perfectionism. Truly, that’s it. The fear of not having it all together before I put myself out there. That ends TODAY.
Praise God, I thankfully married a man who doesn’t live that way. So yesterday he said, in his loud, excited and encouraging tone, “That’s it, you’re starting your blog NOW!” I mean, ten years is a long time of missed opportunities.
So… we brainstormed the ideas that had been rolling around in my head for nearly a decade and came up with the structure of what you see here today!
Rebecca Refined.
Rebecca, because that’s my name, (Hi by the way! nice to meet you, friend!), but Refined, because that is the journey.
A journey of constant refinement for God’s glory.
A journey to pursue excellence with elegance in all areas of life.
- Spiritual walk
- Marriage & Parenting
- Homemaking Skills
- Homeschooling
- Personal Style
- Health & Self Care
- Travel
- Family & Friends
- Citizenship
A constant cultivation of refining all of the above areas.
Gone are the days when people dressed beautifully when they went on an airplane, or just to the store, heck, even just at home! People took pride in the way they presented themselves, their homes, their children, and their belongings.
These days it seems people are more concerned with being justified in their current state. i.e. slogans like “messy hair, don’t care” or “I can’t adult today.” And the sheer popularity of the lounge wear market that has dominated the fashion industry lately. They’re all centered around a certain level of dare I say, *gasp!* laziness and convenience?
Believe me, I too have fallen victim to the appeal of a lifestyle that is apathetic to what “everyone thinks you should be.” And to statements like “you do you boo” or “you’re doing great!” even though you’re really not, but no one wants to tell you that.
I mean, those statements sound appealing at some point to most people, am I right? They did to me once!
But truly, we’ve been called to so much more than that, haven’t we?
To sharpen each other, to work hard, to be not of this world, to do things radically different, to represent Christ in the most excellent of ways – to the very, very BEST of our ability.
This blog is a journey. A journey of refinement. A journey of saying “no” to apathy and mediocrity. A journey to excellence with elegance; for our Savior, for our husbands, for our families, for me, and for you.
Because if I can turn my sloppiness into elegance, you certainly can too. And boy, would I love some company for the journey!
So here we go! A fresh start. Vulnerability, failures, successes, triumphs, joys, and tears abounding will all be shared here!
Let’s take hold of the life to which we were called.
Will you fight the good fight with me?
